Mamie Lang

August 20, 2024

The lord looked graciously upon his world on May 21, 1932 in Saint Louis, Missouri and decided to bless Winston and Lula Lang with a beautiful daughter. They would name her Mamie Louise. The name Mamie means “Precious Pearl”, and she was indeed a “Pearl of a Girl”. The middle name Louise is a reflection of her unwavering faith, and it perfectly captures the essence of her spirit. The family later would welcome two baby boys, Winston Jr. and Horris, Mamie’s little brothers, who did not survive infancy.

In the early 40’s the family moved to Cotton Plant, Arkansas, where Mamie first accepted Jesus Christ into her life, joining the Olive Branch Baptist Church in Cotton Plant, and later the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Brinkley.

Mamie's early childhood education was with The Edith Hale Elementary School and Middle School in the Dark Corner Community (between Brinkley and Cotton Plant). Miss Edith as they called her was the only administrator/teacher in this small community school.

In the 1950s her education continued in the Brinkley Public School System where she graduated from Marian Anderson High School in 1952. She completed several courses at Philander Smith College in Little Rock, Arkansas. In 1955, Mamie would move back north to Chicago, Illinois, where she began working at the Cook County Hospital in the business office. She also worked part-time as a seamstress for a local tailor.

Mamie would subsequently return to Arkansas in 1958 and started working at Mercy Hospital (later converted to St. Joseph Nursing Home) in Brinkley as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant and remained there until retirement in 2004.

Being a woman of great faith, Mamie was a fervent prayer warrior whose prayers were always and will continue to be shields of protection for those she loves. She has left us with a legacy of faith, wisdom, and unconditional love which will carry on for generations to come. Her hobbies included traveling, especially to California, letter writing, cooking, and sewing. She was a very talented seamstress.

The Lord looked again upon His World on August 7, 2024, after 92 years and decided to bring His “Precious Pearl” Mamie Louise Lang, back home to Glory. Mamie was preceded in passing by paternal grandparents Joseph and Bessie Tucker, maternal grandparents John and Hattie Robinson; parents Winston and Lula Robinson-Lang, and a grandson Mickey Curry.

Left to relish Mamie’s beautiful memories are her sons; Herbert L. Lang (Chanel) of Brinkley, AR, Robert A. Lang (Trina) of Sacramento, CA, and Kevin T. Lang (Mershell) of Conway, AR, her daughters; Doris Johnson (Curtis) of West Memphis, AR, and Brenda K. Curry (Michael) of Lakeland,TN, her sister Wendy of Florida, her grandchildren; Keora, Nicholas, Keto, Ricky, Cassie, Allen, Jerrell, Charjustice, Crisalyn, Destenee, Seneca, Shimmick, Chris, Komiko, Candace, Antwain, Tambre, Roshelle, Al, Tish, Artie, Candace, Gered, Tony, Anthony, and Rayea, thirty plus great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends whom she loved dearly.

Funeral was held on August 17, 2024 at 3 pm, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Brinkley with Rev. Paul Pighee officiating. Burial took place at Haven Rest Cemetery in Brinkley by Branscumb-Johnson-Gilchrest Funeral Home "The assurance of respect, and the commitment of service..." (870) 734-2272.
